The infrastructure in Moabit

Moabit is very centrally located in Berlin and is extremely well connected. If you would like to use public transport, you can, for example, take the S-Bahn ring running to the north of the district. The corresponding stations are “Westhafen” and “Beusselstraße”. There is also the northern section of the Berlin regional and long-distance rail network, which has a branch to the main station. This regulation applies on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. and on Saturdays between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. In addition to the parking facilities located directly on the street, there are several parking spaces available. One is located on Beusselstraße and another on Stromstraße. You can also use the PARK ONE underground parking garage in the Schultheiss-Quartier.

Residents can be exempted from the obligation to pay parking fees if they apply for a resident parking permit from the Mitte district office.

Which parties did Moabit residents vote for in the general election?

Moabit belonged to constituency 75 (Berlin-Mitte) in the Bundestag election on September 26, 2021. Therefore, the results achieved in the constituency can be used here to assess the party political situation in Moabit. The Greens achieved the largest share of the second votes with 30.7%, well ahead of the other parties, and the direct mandate also went to the Green candidate. The SPD (21.4%) and DIE LINKE (13.8%) followed at a greater distance in the second votes. The CDU achieved 11.2% of the second votes and the FDP 8.8%. The AfD achieved 5.1%. Berlin’s new central station, which was completed in 2006, opens the doors to the world and invites visitors from all over Europe to this part of Berlin. Because when you get off the train here, you immediately find yourself in one of Moabit’s popular neighborhoods. The former Schultheiss brewery has been home to the Schultheiss-Quartier since 2018 – a shopping center where you can take a stroll and run your errands. But the Moabiter Markthalle is also an absolute hotspot. At weekends, you will not only meet local residents here, but also visitors from all corners of Berlin. On Beusselstraße, you can also visit the wholesale market and buy some ingredients for your culinary delicacies that you won’t find anywhere else.

Turmstraße is home to Moabit’s most beautiful bars, bistros, restaurants and cafés. It’s worth strolling along and looking in the windows of the small stores. These stores hide some treasures. If you want to go out in Berlin, you probably won’t choose Moabit for this purpose. But give the district a chance to enchant you. It’s worth it! You won’t find many Michelin-starred restaurants here, but if you are looking for culinary specialties, you will come across restaurants from all over the world. Only Berlin has such a diverse cuisine.

Admittedly, Moabit is not exactly known for its parks and green spaces. The district is more notable for its extensive walks along the Spree and other canals. The largest park in Moabit is Fritz-Schloß-Park. At 12 hectares, it can’t quite keep up with other parks in Berlin in terms of size, but its green spaces are very pretty and some of the trees are old.

If you are interested in art, sooner or later you will definitely be drawn to Moabit. Artists from all over the world love the district, which is a wonderful place to live. They exhibit their paintings and jewelry in small studios and are delighted to take part in the annual Moabit Art Days “Inselglück”. Another art center is located at the former freight depot in Moabit. It is called the Center for Art and Urbanistics. Admittedly, you will have to leave Moabit and drive a little way through the Tiergarten district. But the little detour is really worth it, that’s for sure.
